Honestly, this is why I prefer books. It’s much more of just, one person’s vision, sink or swim on that proposal. If I don’t like the book I can at least respect that it was someone’s vision. Yes there’s an editor or two, but nothing like what’s described above, which is art by committee. Well, except in the woke era there’s also sensitivity readers and focus group shit, but I rarely read anything pre-2010 for exactly that reason.
That actually shocked me that they would want so many hands on one thing, but to be fair they do say it is only for major IPs like James Bond, which makes some sense.
For something like that all the writers have the same background knowledge of the setting and characters so it makes it more seamless. I still agree with you though there is no way to keep the story cohesive with so many hands on it.
