Mario And Luigi: Superstar Saga felt like the perfect template for an ideal Mario movie. You have both brothers going on an action and slap stick filled road trip to save the princess while bickering in gibberish Italian along the way, and Luigi even has an arc where he overcomes his cowardice nature to save his brother.

This game felt like the most cinematic of all the Mario games to me because it fleshed out all the personalities of all the characters while staying faithful to how the games originally depicted them.
