I'm in Tampa. Several different drivers have relayed to me that they do around 600 packages a day in my area. Each driver I mean.
I think the layoffs were to get rid of low performers and bump the stock up. People may be buying less overall, but I don't think 'main' Amazon is slowing in growth at all. The only place they are taking a hit is probably their entertainment division.
They'll be working hard to automate delivery, from packing to driving. Most of their money is prob going to grease the wheels of expanding into foreign markets.
600 packages a day? In a 10 hour shift that's 1 package a minute. I'm assuming most of those are people ordering in bulk because there's no way they are doing it that fast.

I'm in the Clearwater area. I see their delivery vans all the time and there are several boxes at stores here for them. Amazon's got problems.
