Based on just listening to many people who have been in prison, safety as a chomo depends on where he is. They do get messed with. Some places have whole gangs of them. But if he's in low security, he won't be housed next to the gang members and lifers who commit prison crimes.
I've heard people tell it both ways: That chomos were severely abused/killed and that it was NBD.
Then if the worst that happens to him in there is he has to delay his “gender transition,” he should count himself very, very lucky.

I should have known, they don’t even like their own kids so why would they hate a guy for crimes against someone else’s?
