I'm not sure where you're from, but in America, it isn't happening. The WNBA has been hemorrhaging money, propped up by the NBA, since it was founded. Futurama dunked on them (0:14) years ago (which is good, because they cant dunk themselves). Soccer has a niche here, but I've never heard of anyone following the women's team besides a minor burst of interest during the World Cup. As far as I'm aware, there hasn't been a women's pro baseball league since 1954, when the AAGPBL closed up shop. About the only sports where enough people watch to pay them good salaries are tennis (which is also kind of niche, nowhere near the popularity of the other sports here) and MMA (where they benefit from being part of a scheduled, mixed fight card, even if they are not the headliners).
As you know if you've been following this sub, though, they are trying to push the whole "women in X" narrative with basically everything. What you're probably seeing is Americans rolling their eyes at yet another attempt to force this.
