Happy to say that my parents stopped watching Wheel of Time. My mom told me her and my dad were watching it when it came out and I was pretty surprised and my dad asked me why I didn't watch it since he knew I read the books. I told him because the showrunner seems to hate the books. My dad rolled his eyes and called me a book purist (he teases me about that as well with comic books because I don't watch many of those anymore).
I asked my mom why they stopped watching and my dad said "they went gay on us". Like me they are devout Christians (well I do my best to be) so they aren't interested in heavy lgbt content or at this point any so, also like me, they watch a lot of older content. I told them that in the books it is there but not really prevalent and not something you would expect someone who simply wants to adapt a book series to focus on. I used to think my parents where silly to stop watching shows for that reason but I can understand that mindset now.
The three most trendy groups in Hollywood right now are lgbt, women, and blacks (although I don't think straight black males are very desirable to hollywood). At one time a lot of people would've given shows a chance but not anymore. With me I am wary about anything made after 2014 when I really started to notice things.
Ironically I would say the obsession with diversity has made every show look exactly alike. You know with woke storytelling who will be the good and bad guy, who will be in charge, if a woman is a villain then there will be some justification, etc. With fantasy look at how "reflecting the modern world" just ruins it. They can't make their own stories to do the reflecting they want so they tear down classics. Critical Drinker once said that Willow, Wheel of Time, Witcher Blood Origin, and Rings of Power are essentially the assembly line creations... diverse fantasy 1, 2, and 3.
I'm a big reader and after Sci-Fi/Fantasy one of my favorite genres is murder mystery/cop drama and I've read books with gay detectives but the focus was on the mystery or finding the killer. Now it is everywhere and I'm convinced there is a rule that says that same sex couples always have to be shown in a positive light and the shill media acts like it is the best piece of cinema since Casablanca. Stranger Things Season 3 where instead of the reformed jock falling in love with the nerdy girl (which makes sense for a show that is a homage to the 80s) we get subverted expectations and I don't watch the last of us but I hear the critics loved the last episode.
Anyway, sorry for my rant, I'll now try to get my parents to listen to The Wheel of Time audiobook
I honestly think that a lot of normies are starting to catch on to what is going on and that it isnt just a handful of weirds, but the entire clown show. I know people like to hate on them for not seeing what we see, but a lot of them just want to go along and arent on the internet to see what we see.
Yesterday when I was going to work, I heard on the comedy radio show I listen to (which is all a bunch of normie-tier comedians), they were talking about Airplane the movie being in the news for a book about the making of it coming out. But when their news person said "Airplane is in the News", the host, without pause, said "No wait, dont tell me. A bunch of Woke shits are trying to cancel that too now, right?" So normies are starting to catch on that the Woke are not good people and hate the things they normally like.
I have also seen my fiancé starting to get the sort of videos I watch on Youtube. Stuff like Critical Drinker, Nerdrotic, etc. But she has largely wanted to remain out of the culture war because she hates both sides (although has always hated the Woke more than us). I know I didnt show her those videos, she found them on her own. And so now she is even starting to learn about some of the crazy shit I havent told her about like Woman King.
Which is why I cant be pessimistic. The future is fine for most of us (at least in the US). This has all happened before, it will happen again. Just find the place you can keep going and we will endure.
Yea, at some point the tide will turn. I love Drinker, Nerdrotic, G&G, Eric July, etc. I think one step is to start making our own content. I bought Eric July's comic and will buy the next one. Very soon I plan to buy Shadversity and Razorfists books. Shad is also coming out with a sci-fi book series and he calls it the Orville for Star Wars.
Airplane is an amazing movie. As someone who loves Leave it to Beaver, June Cleaver speaking jive is classic.
I hated Orville. Just saying
That’s how he described it. I felt it was better trek than current trek but that isn’t saying much. But I’ll check out his book
