Velma's original character design doc was "intelligent nerdy awkward bookish type, occasionally paired with Shaggy".

Velma's remake design is "Ain' gat personality 'cept 'm black yo cause black is a personality, but don't go stereotyping black just cause of that."

Pretty sure Velma's supposed to be Indian, because Mindy Kaling is Indian and this is an obvious self-insert character.
