Nice allegory, though to be fair the EU has always been open in their drive to remove sovereignty and authority from it's member states to make itself the central authority
It's just in the past they'd bore you to not pay attention, now they try to repackage it as a 'green/carbon zero policy'
The federal government of the USA is doing the same, although granted against more resistance.
There seems to be more resistance in the US but unfortunately the institutions are willing to corrupt the election process itself to maintain power which may mean it's past the point if recovery and bulkanization is required.
Europe is in a different position where there's a lot of disenfranchisement so a lot of voters just aren't voting but when they do they change the power structure. Both Brexit and the covid response dealt a killing blow and it's just being kept slowly dying on life support by global powers desperate to hold on to power in the region.
