Interestingly (late to this, I know), this apparently now means it will be “unavailable” to the ABC in Australia, for the first time in the history of the show, some 60-odd years, if you want to count the “years in the wilderness”…
What this means is, Australian audiences will be much less exposed to the new eps. In my opinion, that is a good thing. First because, in the words of the woke, “you can’t be what you can’t see”, and secondly because the “fandom” here, as elsewhere, is shriveling and dying, and this might kill it, and perhaps also the show, for good…
It deserves to die. If we ever get through this current “cultural period” and regain some semblance of “sanity” or “balance”..? Then sure, perhaps bring it back. But at the current “moment”, I personally hope this is the last straw, and it kills the show for good.
There’s only so long you can treat your fans like shit and continue to successfully get away with it (why, hello Star Wars, Trek, DC and Marvel)…
I can see Disney wanting to make a Doctor Who world at a theme park to compete with Harry Potter world at Universal. The problem is, they lack the story telling skill to do it.
My wife and I are watching all the a nuwho episodes at the moment and she has basically stopped at Capaldi. She had us restart at Season 4 because she loves that one. That's got to be the obvious sign something is wrong when people stop considering a new episode as important.
