Dulik, a tenant organizer, and Nicholas, an urban planner, are the founders of Club Leftist Tennis, a Substack newsletter that covers their favorite sport through a progressive lens.
Dulik bemoaned the media reception. “It’s always the exact same phrases: ‘Pickleball is much more accessible and fun than tennis’; ‘Pickleball is the fastest growing sport,’” he said. “I’m cringing at being sold something so blatantly.”
But, for decades, it barely made a ripple — pickle what? Even now, the number of players in the United States is estimated at around 5 million, according to a 2022 report from the Sports & Fitness Industry Association. By contrast, some 21 million Americans started playing tennis in 2020 alone, according to the Physical Activity Council.
Consider their view like how you might view trannies: a very tiny phenomenon that suddenly fell into public consciousness, a bastardization of something of your interest, suddenly imposing itself in certain "spaces," and being told by media that this is just as good or better than what your interest is.
Clearly a poor comparison, but seeing that these guys are urnalists, tennis may be the only good thing going for them.
