This may sound petty but I was at my local used book store this past weekend and in the sci-fi/fantasy section I saw some books by NK Jemison that had literally been collecting dust and it looked like they haven't been touched in a long time. The section has a ton of great older content so I wasn't surprised, but fair or not I compare NK Jemison with Zoe Quinn and Anita Sarekesian.
Women who enter a predominately male hobby and play the victim to get companies to bend the knee. There have always been female fans of sci-fi/fantasy but a true fan doesn't demand that the hobby suit them. I would imagine fantasy is more of an even split between male and female fans but I would definitely say more guys are into sci-fi simply due to the fact that it is a genre that is constantly attacked for being toxic. I used to keep up with the Hugos and various awards and would buy anthologies of the previous award winners in sci-fi/fantasy and sometimes horror.
I remember hearing about the whole sad puppies thing and thinking that the sci-fi community wouldn't stand for it. Boy was I wrong. And it still irritates me that Jemison won three straight Hugo when greats like Asimov, Clarke, or Heinlein didn't and she seems to be unable to actually talk about sci-fi and instead complain about racism. I remember getting into arguments in the youtube comments section on the Hugo awards ceremony when she won. I simply said you can't honestly tell me that she won based on merit. I was attacked for being racist and then I asked the person if she was a black woman that was an avid Trump supporter do you think she would've won? They didn't answer.
So anyway, I know it is petty but it made me happy to know that people in my local area have some taste.
She's probably worse. At least, her Twitter is more sociopathic.
It shouldn't. Awards are not for good work, but for regime approval.
When they call you 'racist', a conspiracy theorist, paid by Russia, or any of their other usual attacks, they do not mean that you are a racist. They mean that you need to shut up and listen to them.
I remember the first time someone called me a racist. I was shocked and thought that if I only explained what's going on - he'd say: ah, I didn't know that, I realize now that you were just disagreeing with me. Obviously, that didn't work, and now when they call me a racist for the 700th time, I just laugh and mock them.
The same people who want racial preferences attack others for saying that someone won based on racial preferences. To be fair, it is pretty humiliating to be bad but win because of your color, but then stop imposing such humiliation on people.
But you see, an avid black female Trump supporter ain't black. So it's all consistent.
True but that was before they openly said a minority who doesn’t think the right way is white. Same with you though. No point in defending myself against racism charges. I’ve just embraced being a white supremacist. I joke that since I have a little white ancestry I guess that DNA is working overtime.
Welcome to the club!
That doesn't even compare to how hard my 0.01% (or however low it is) is working! It will probably drop dead from exhaustion one of these days.
I remember a conservative during the Obama era who replied to accusations of racism: I hate his white half.
That’s funny! One of my cousins once told me that I may have brown skin but I inherited the personality of my white ancestors.
I can think of a very mean response to that if he did not say it in good fun.
