Okay so let's take this clip as an example. Does this look like a billion dollars at work? Does this look like one of the most expensive pieces of media ever made?
Because to me it looks like exactly what I said, that a lot of this show's budget was stolen by producers instead of spent on the show itself. It makes Destiny 2 vanilla look well thought out.
And that's even if you discount how atrocious the actual writing is. Because "oh lawd them rangs" isn't really a stretch.
There's nowhere near enough in this one minute clip to judge the value of the whole series. It's just a lady riding a horse. Her costume looks fine. The horse has some neat looking saddle work, but with current tech, this clip could have been made for a couple thousand dollars. But not every scene of a big budget epic needs to cost millions.
As I understand it, that budget covers the whole series, not one minute of horsey riding on the beach.
From what I saw in the trailer, there's a lot more, lots of green screen with CGI backgrounds, of course, but some good looking costumes, neat armor and big battle scenes with pretty good VFX.
I'm not defending the existence of this series in any way, nor recommending anybody watch it. As I've said, I have no desire to watch it, because it was clearly made with the intent to desecrate Tolkien's legacy.
I'm just offering my opinion based on what I've seen. There are technical aspects that look fine to me, which tells me that at least some of the criticism is greatly exaggerated.
Maybe there are scenes where the sets and costumes look like bad community college theater, I don't know. I haven't seen a critic post clips of this, and I don't care enough to watch the show for myself to find out.
It does cover the whole series, that's exactly what I'm talking about. They paid a billion dollars and there is no quality control in evidence here. At no point was cinematography consistency a priority.

This was a grift.
I think you underestimate the dedication of Woke cultists. I'm going with 40% grift, 60% incompetent ideologues in upper production.
Probably a lot of hard working production crew and post production trying to create the "vision" of the retarded show runners.
