It's just virtue signalling. They are the first one to complain, because they haven't had any hardship in their life.
That said no one will freeze to death (well not more than usual).

People froze to death in Texas during that blizzard because Abbott let the EPA dictate Texas energy policy. This kind of stuff does get people killed.
