Look, I don't really think the idea of "oh, Trump can't win, they aren't scared of him, he's a shill, he won't do anything" is clearly not the case here.
I really don't think Trump is going to do pretty much anything but get vengeance for shit like this. Really. Trump is not the type of guy who seems like he will just turn the other cheek.
You don't pull this shit unless they are deathly afraid of him getting back into power. They obviously hate him and are willing to at least break the law to stop him, but there has to be a reason. Trump could be easily bought off, but they didn't and they keep digging their own hole here.
I'm starting to think that when Trump wins in 2024, before he can fire 50,000 federal employees, we're going to look at DC basically evacuating with all of our money. I think it might turn into a ghost town.
It doesn't really matter. They could have raided his house for a box of cookies. You don't raid President's homes, even ones that are unpopular or disgraced. They are pretty well protected politically. I don't necessarily agree, but that's the way it is. It's a warning shot at Trump's head. "Next time, we won't miss."
Hell, think of the FoxCatcher murder. A well connected millionaire straight up killed a man in cold blood, in public, in his house. The police didn't go in until he surrendered himself, and simply went in to gather crime scene evidence. Rich & connected people don't get treated like others. This is them treating him as bad as they would treat a Jan. 6'er.
They would have to be pretty blind to think that there's not going to be blowback politically, even by establishment Republicans, or MAGA adjacent people like Ted Cruz. They kind of have to respond to this because there's no reason that they wouldn't be next. After all, Cruz has been accused of attempting to assassinate AOC by co-ordinating the Jan 6 'attacks on the Capitol', and was wearing far-right iconography on his boots.
It's 1,000 times worse than when they raided Project Veritas at the behest of the New York Times, and even then you had journalistic and legal organizations coming out and saying, "uhhh... we want O'Keefe dead as much as you do, but this makes us look shady as shit."
If it were a "he can't do shit", it would be really stupid.
If anything, I would think it would be so malicious that they are hoping it would cause right-wing violence.
