Definitely not true.

Very few robbers are looking to commit murder, or even assault. The problem is that the homeowner is not a mindreader and doesn't know what kind of thief they're they're dealing with.

For instance, the guy my mother caught trying to steal her her grid covers for scrap metal. Dude bailed as soon he was seen.
