They may be idiots but they are not completely wrong, gamergate did start the trend of distrusting journalists and the media in general. Politics was one thing but I still remember how shocking it was to realize how unethical and manipulative game journalists really were, entertainment was designed to manipulate in a very radical way and gamergate exposed it.

Now it is out in the open and is harder to get manipulated, more people are pointing out the hypocrisy of journalists and how unethical they really are. Depp vs Heard was very similar. Was a non-political event that was covered in the most biased mod possible by the media do to identity politics.
