Judge is ruling in favor of the crown. He wants to hear Benson's remarks about Canada Day and the impact he thinks the Lich's involvement in the Freedom Convoy played on the, I guess, anti-Trudeau sentiment on July 1.

Benson, I think, is insinuating that Canada Day events had fewer families and lower attendance numbers because of freedom protests this year.
(The events were moved, roads were blocked off and police fear mongered and threatened people for days in advance of July 1, but ok)

Not allowed to take a screenshot because of the prohibition on photography in court (even Zoom court), but Tamara Lich was handcuffed as jail guards returned her to her seat for her bail hearing.
The gov won't let serial killers attend parole hearings (ie after they were found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt) in handcuffs and prison jumpsuits because it "makes them look guilty" but a 5 ft 90 lbs grandma must be.
And yes in Canada there's a mandatory parole hearing after 25 yrs regardless of crime. Harper removed it but our radical supreme court overturned it.
Judge will reserve his decision til Friday afternoon at 1:30. Tamara Lich will remain in jail until at least July 8, 1:30 Eastern.
That's 12 days for a photo and a brief whisper, that's on top of the 18 days she was previously held when denied bail. So min 30 days for minor charges with no previous criminal record.
Crown argues Lich must go to jail because Marazzo is apparently some kind of radical as he was willing to sit with the Conservatives, Bloc, NDP at the same table. I am not sure these comments show that he was trying to overthrow the government but rather sit down with anyone
the crown is upset, "insulted", because Lich was joked that she is Metis and that the "race card works both ways" after she was called racist. "Systemic injustice is not a race card. They are real issues."
