Because you, personally and rightly, may not give value to the political opinions of the hot and famous are. But it's definitely not no-one caring. Huge numbers of people in fact are influenced by them, and deciding to stick your head in the sand and declare them non-existent doesn't change that. Ignore them and try to seriously oppose the politics espoused by said hot starlets and you're just going to get crushed by that same huge number of idiots.

Rhetoric is words and language, words and language specifically chosen with the intent to elicit emotional short-circuits that will over-ride rational thought and get people to think and act in a way the rhetorician wants. And sometimes the emotional switch is "holy fuck they're ugly, I want nothing to do with that"
