Without watching the clip, which I will do in a few minutes here, I suspect that the "forgiveness" is part of some idiotic "restorative justice" program. "Restorative Justice" attempts to reconcile criminals and their victims by putting them in the same room with a middleman who urges the victims to forgive and forget while urging the convicts to apologize.

I'd be interested to hear any opinions on this concept.
