I got into death metal around ~2000. At that point I reached the incredibly named anus.com.* Y'all might laugh, but this was a super reactionary place at that point. I'll always remember the triggering moment for me: a simple question of whether culture determined race (social constructionism), or whether race determined culture. Just that possibility led me down a rabbit hole that never ceased. My nasty right-wing thoughts ever permeated, and after a touch of Sowell, I was done for.
*These days, some of the reviews on the old website are available at deathmetal.org.

I started as a libertarian because that was how I could pretend to be smarter than both sides and also I read Atlas Shrugged in high school.
When I was 20ish a friend told me he got his gf pregnant. My immediate expectation was that his next statement would be "so we will be getting married" but instead it was "so I took her to get an abortion". I felt this visceral revulsion and contemp for him that hit me from out of nowhere.
Previously I had argued for "reproductive rights" and thought any objection to abortion was " dumb religious people". Yet when faced with the reality of it all I was thinking was "You utter piece of shit, you murdered your kid because you are too much of a fucking coward to take responsibility for your actions"
That didnt change me politically much but got me thinking about my worldview. Then, years later, World War T started, gamergate happeded, Trump was elected and neutrality no longer became an option.
I didnt understand it but John Doyle articulated what happened. "Anyone who thinks things through to their logical conclusions will become radical"
