Reminder that unionization is not about "workers right".
It seems like he was talking about communist union corruption, who's goal was to advance communist ideology.
The modern issue with unions is regressive leftist union corruption, which has similar goals to classical communist unions.
Criminal and extremist corruption in unions is a major longstanding issue that must be dealt with via union regulation.
His point still stands that your right as a worker to dictate the value of your labour is removed in a union. You're not allowed to do the same job for slightly less money in order to incentivize being hired. You're not allowed to argue that you should get far more because you put in more effort. This leads the same situation as we see with government mandated minimum wages where any drive to outperform is disincentivized.
I do think two tiered minimum wage for small businesses vs major corporations is a good idea.
