The regulations changed and all the car designs had to be redone from the start. For the last regulation change, Hamilton's team was far and away the best for the whole 8 years, and now they're near being the worst.
It's very cathartic.
Mercedes is not nearly “one of the worst” teams. Their car is improving rapidly and they’ve outperformed a lot of other constructors anyway.
