One of the reasons I enjoyed season one was that they set up Steve as the archetype "jock asshole," but then humanized him as the story progressed. That's the kind of "subversion of expectations" that I like.
Now my expectations are that any "white alpha male" character in popular entertainment is going to be turned into a buffoon who ends up as a sidekick to a strong, diverse female.
I don't expect these expectations to be subverted very often from now on.
