1st) Demographic Collapse
A 1/4 of its populace has drug resistant TB and it takes 2 years + thousands of dollars to cure if the strain is curable. Alcoholism isn't a disease in Russia its a national past time. HIV is so high in Russia, that they quit reporting the cases. Opiod addicts make up 2.3% of Russia's population.
Putin is going after strategic chokepoints to defend Russia from NATO. He's not stopping with his current gains until he get Transnistria attached to Crimea to use the Mountains to act as a blockade. Next winter he's going after the Baltics and Poland up to the Vistula River.
3rd) No leaders left
Putin has literally killed anyone who could replace him. When Putin dies, Russia dies.
