I think anyone who is different (for whatever reason) knows that when it's just one of you against hordes of people who are different, you are going to stick out and be a target. A single black kid in an "all white school" 🙄 will get just as much shit as a white kid in a school that's predominantly non-white. But only one will get reported in the media or ever really talked about outside of friend groups.
I think we can all learn something from your example. The worst part is that implicit lesson being taught to the children about what kind of behavior is allowed and what is not. Soon those kids will be adults and instead of teachers looking the other way and going hard on anyone who doesn't like it, it will be politicians and the media.
