They've been talking about that a while. I wonder how they get anyone to use it, outside of replacing existing USD transactions with it (e.g. ACH, Visa/Mastercard, etc.) Even if they totally ban any other crypto who is going to want their government crypto. It defeats the purpose.

Anybody who wants to be able to pay their taxes, at a guess. It's easy enough to force some level of participation, and once you have that, the government can make it reasonably difficult to trade between, particularly if they introduce the smart money thing that's effectively a limited-use voucher owned by your employer (or the government) rather than actual currency.
If mean, if they are going all-in on the smart currency thing, the sky's the limit with how authoritarian you could be. What's that? You like some stocks? I'm sorry, you're little people, your voucher won't work for that until you get some insurance - to protect the market, of course - that just happens to only be available to Wall Street types.
I guess that's what I meant by replacing existing USD transactions though. It would have a be a "no, you can't pay us with <insert some other way you used to pay> you now have to use UShitCoin to do that." At which point it's just another transaction system for the same thing.
Or tax you more based on your choices of what you buy. Just imagine they push single payer healthcare through they will increase your taxes based on red meat purchases, lack of gym membership, number of games played or movies watched.
It instantly tells the government everything about you based on purchases. The same crap info that big tech has gathered on all of us to try to sell you more, government will use to tax and oppress you into behaving the way the government wants.

Indeed. Your prescribed role in this little drama is to be the poor bastard losing his pension fund.

True enough, it's just another transaction system - but one the Federal government could throw you in jail for not using. That counts for a bit.
