Depending on how the sanctions and asset freezing have played out, that sponsorship money may well have already dried up. At that point there's no need to keep saddling themselves with a useless driver and a sponsor who can't pay for anything.

Not to mention: Their entire budget is built upon the sponsorship deal, this decision may drive them to bankruptcy.
