Yes Christian had their power crazy days but now is more about love thy neighbor, strong family values, anti-degeneracy, individual responsibility and care about protecting children.  A Christian will help out anyone when they have a problem, does not matter if they are gay, trans or what ever even if they do not agree with their life style. At least that has been my experience.

On top of that Christians are sometimes protected by freedom of religion so it helps.
