I think I would have considered myself a "confused liberal". I was raised neo-conservative religious but drifted liberal in college as the contradictions in neo-conservatism became apparent. Around 2009-2010 the contradictions in neo-liberalism started to become apparent, but I still thought they could be salvaged through process and consensus-building.

OTOH in my professional life I was working for a giant multi-national where process and consensus-building was how everything was done, and I was growing frustrated with it having come from a small company primarily dominated by hierarchy, individual decision-making, and relationships between individuals. I used to be able mention a problem to the right person at the bar Friday after work (and vice versa) and it'd be fixed by Monday; not so at the big company.

It wasn't until the past couple years when I finally realized that dichotomy is a pretty good approximation of left-wing and right-wing modes of organization and that my strong preference for the latter probably means I'm right-wing.

Ironically one of the seminal texts in my field, The Mythical Man Month, recommends strong hierarchies and individual decision-making as the best way to organize software teams, and I imagine if it hasn't already it will eventually be deemed to promote "fascism" or "sexism" or some such thing and purged.
