There is accountability to some extent at a country level. There have been several cases where governments had to step down do to poor management or corruption.
But at an EU level? Who exactly gets the responsibility? Where does it take in to account the will of the people? If they manage poorly, lets say the immigrant crisis, how do you vote your opinion?
You vote for some parliament representatives that just veto what ever the Commission wants, No one even knows what those they vote for are saying they want to do. Everyone blindly votes on a local party, so there is no accountability because they do not have to assume responsibility, they do not need to have a platform.
Combine this with the lack of knowledge on how the EU works and there is no accountability, except at an abstract level as in the EU is responsible.
Honestly the US system is superior to the EU, at least in theory.
