Classic movies: Casablanca (1941), Maltese Falcon (1940) and To Catch a Thief (1952ish).
Casablanca is probably my favourite movie ever, or thereabouts. It is excellent, to the point where, if you haven’t seen it, you absolutely must.
Maltese Falcon… Didn’t do so much for me, but it’s iconic, and pretty much the first noir, so… Worth a watch.
To Catch a Thief is great. Funny, iconic and Grace Kelly is amazing. More Hitchcock/Grant: North by Northwest. More Grant: Bringing Up Baby (original) and Father Goose. More Kelly: honestly, anything you can find, at this point.
Golden Age/Silver Age Hollywood in general is pretty dope. While we’re at it, Fritz Lang’s Metropolis (silent), and Aelita, Queen of Mars, which is also silent, and pretty much the first ever sci fi film, are seriously bizarre, but also good, in their own weird way!
Ooh, and if you get into the silent stuff/want a different genre: “M, the City Hunts a Murderer”.
The original is better, of course, but there’s also a modern miniseries remake which is obviously much more… Current, so take your pick!!
