The gameplay is free, but they stripped almost every single customization away and are selling them for insane prices. You can't color your spartan WHITE without spending around 20 bucks.
The funny thing is, by setting the prices this high, they have to stick with them no matter what.
If they lower them, they'll make the suckers who did pay up very angry. If they compensate those people, they won't need to spend more and they're the whales that keep the game alive.
They could always go the Fortnite route and give special styles to those who were buying from day 1, I suppose. Not sure how you would make special versions of basic color palettes though.
I haven't tried the game yet, I've been too busy with FH5 to even start the install. I got a little worried about what it would be like when I had to choose pronouns, but once you start driving, it's definitely the same as the last 4. One extra menu to appease the hordes isn't so bad. There's so much useless dialogue spam though. "Hey Impossible, there's a new race" "Hey Impossible, that was a really good drive!" "Hey Impossible, you've unlocked a new car!" - mute solves the problem, I suppose.
The game is free though, right? I think?

You know I have never, not once, had even the slightest bit of FOMO from not buying stupid pointless cosmetics.

Does it have a Battle Pass type thing as well?
Yeah, they'd have to give refunds to people who bought it = to the price difference.
There's a battle pass, though half of it is junk items like Challenge Swaps and XP boosters
