If you have your CCW, carry your damned gun. If you have a gun, 10 minutes of dry fire a day is how you get better with it. Learn how to draw from concealment, learn how to manipulate it (load, unload, reload, clear malfunctions.) Do it so many times that it becomes subconscious action.
Spicy time is coming, and you won't rise to the occasion, you will default to the level of your training. If you have none, that is what you will default to.
Sometimes you don't have the choice. There are plenty of Active Self Protection videos that show this. In that instance, you better have a sub 1.5 second draw to first shot, because when it is your turn to go, you don't have all day to get it done.
The White Settlement shooting from December 2019 is a perfect example of this. The first man shot was armed, and was drawing, but it took him so long to get his piece out the perp shot him dead.
Gotta be careful with the ammo though, rechambering the same round multiple times will progressively punch it deeper into the case.
If I take out the chambered round I’ll usually place it back into the barrel directly and gently pound on the slide until the extractor engages. This’ll chew up the rim of the case a bit but it’s not as much of a problem.
I solve the issue by not unloading the thing in the first place. :) I live alone, so not an issue for me, but others might not have that option.
When I do unload it, for dry fire or what not, I drop a round into the chamber manually and drop the slide on it. No, not good for the extractor, but I keep my eye on it, and replace it if damage occurs.

^^^100% this, CCW for over 30 years.
Yes, this is true.
BUT

Watch the ASP video on it.
And you better have one in the chamber
