A state premier (in this case, Palace-chook) is like a US governor. They make the laws, and are generally viewed as the "leader" of the state...
Jeannette Young, who this is about, has been the "Chief Health Officer" (health gestapo/stooge, in charge of deciding lockdowns, curfews, masks, vaccines, etc., etc.), for SIXTEEN FUCKING YEARS, in an unelected position, which we essentially did not know existed prior to March 2020.
Guess what? She's resigned, as of today, to take up the position of (state) governor. Poobah in chief.
Governors in Australia are... Mostly symbolic roles. They, supposedly, don't have much real power. INEXFUCKINGSPLICABLY, the position is chosen by the Premier (*Prime Minister, nationally), despite the fact that, technically, the governor becomes the Premier's boss. I suppose precedent was set a few years ago, when, inexplicably again, the governor-general (federal one) was the opposition leader's mother-in-law...
Theoretically, this shouldn't matter, but do you know what the governor's REAL role is? To give royal assent. To sign off on fucking laws, after they pass parliament. Do you REALLY think "Doctor" Young is gonna stand in Annie Palace-Chook's way, when she wants to increase her own "emergency powers"..? Really?? After all this, for the last 18 fucking months?
Oh, and you know what is unique about Qld, re Australian states? There's no Upper House. There's no State SENATE. So that means that all Annie Chook has to do is have a simple majority in the Unicameral parliament, and then get poobah-in-chief to sign off on ESSENTIALLY WHATEVER LAW SHE WANTS...
I can't tell you how fucked this situation is. It is completely fucking ludicrous, and yet, even the so-called "conservative" media, apart from the Speccy, is absolutely glowing with praise, recommendation, and how this is "democracy manifest"...
So long "democracy". I suppose it was relatively nice knowing ya... :-(
For Americans (and non-Commonwealth peeps):
