They cast the tv shows and movies. Whenever we have a remake or use of a classic redhead character. The producers' choose the casting. Often times they request diversity to get a movie or show made. Pippi Long Stockings won't be Dutch, but instead be a homely Somali child.
And be lauded as stunning and brave
I wonder how much of this is specifically about China's thirst for American films to be catered to them. Asians can never have red hair, and there is zero dyes that can replicate red hair anywhere close to passable, and to see a beautiful or powerful redhead is further reminder of what they can't have.
Could be. The replacement is always a light skinned mixed raced individual. A total global citizen.
Lately anytime there is a movie made that includes a well known red head female character, the studio's will recast the character as a black woman.
Mary Jane Watson in the new Spider-Man movies, Ariel in The Little Mermaid, Barbara Gordon in the upcoming Bat-Girl. Even Triss Merigold in The Witcher netflix series.
All are red head characters that were replaced with black women.
