This is a franchise that gained prominence by letting the player do things they couldn't do in GTA, which at that point was kind of dry and serious. Now GTA is a ridiculous circus of flying missile bikes and armored vehicles, with everyone running around shooting death rays at each other. Kind of hard to top that. Pursuit of being crazier than GTA took SR to some strange places, and at this point events of the series basically require a full reboot of the game's universe. And here's where disaster strikes, because instead of the venerable characters we came to enjoy from the earlier games, we get a bunch of no-name ripoffs who look like they would be more at home in a Fortnite update.
It would have been fun to rebuild the Saints in the re-constituted version of Earth that one ending gives, finding the various characters and pulling them back into a life of crime. Obviously the devs didn't want to pay the guy who voices Johnny Gat enough money, so we get this shit.
