Well, I think it was Carl Sagan in The Dragons of Eden who pointed out that tribal names tend to always translate into simply "The People". IOW, members of any given tribe (that is, members of a culturally and racially coherent group, with "bands" (of families) being the subset) consider themselves to be the only true people, whereas other humans (with different customs, gods, clothing, etc) of different tribes are just sort of "almost people" or "animals with whom we trade" and suchlike. Such is the reality of what "tribalism" is, and it's the same mindset that causes humans to still take that demon Descartes seriously.
