Nobody, not even the boomers who espouse that bullshit, rewards dedication anymore. They just see dedicated people as fools who deserve to be exploited and then tossed aside when they are no longer seen as useful.
This applies mostly to salary management. In my years with the company I'm with now, I've sen more low level managers turn tail than any other position in the company who are hourly. I was asked if I wanted to get into the LEAD program, and I replied "no, I like my work here and the money I make. I will make less in management and my skills will not be utilized." Their only response was your opportunities to make more money will grow. So I reminded them that they are my managers managers and that the positions they have were given to them through their network of friends and confidants. They didn't like that, but for some reason the EEO paid attention. Though, I don't know if their sacking relates to my expression. I did write to corporate about how low level management was constantly turning over and it was affecting company growth.
