I don't really watch streamers, but of the ones I have seen, the girls seem to be doing it because of looks and thirsty followers, who knows if they really like games, I doubt they are very, very good at them. Plenty of ways for males to looks at pretty women on the net, so not enough draw to those streamers when they can get it elsewhere (not that people should be ahem "looking at pretty women" on the net, but I digress). The Men tend to be funnier, have more personality, also seem to have friends to banter with too sometimes, makes it more enjoyable to watch. Plus I'm pretty sure they actually like the game, and some are very, very good. So, no surprise, women being middling, relying on looks when they aren't, then being upset when men put in more effort and reap the rewards. How many of the top female streamers look like Instagram models I wonder? How many have such photo accounts on the side? Can't fix this, because not only does it require no fix, you can't force people to like these women as much, nor make them interesting enough to like either.
That's been my experience too. I watch some TrackMania streamers, and the (now as of very recently) top streamer is a woman who is very new to the game, is probably as good at the game as most of her audience, and whose primary appeal seems to be that she's young, attractive, wears low-cut shirts, and shrouds everything she says in sexual innuendo.
