No seriously just before Covid about 2016/2017 there was a surge in people getting rid of their smartphones back to 'dumb phones'. https://www.bing.com/search?q=Why%20I%27m%20going%20back%20to%20a%20dumbphone&qs=n&form=QBRE&sp=-1&pq=why%20i%27m%20going%20back%20to%20a%20dumbphone&sc=0-33&sk=&cvid=645D78A2242A48B3BC3F78BD7EB72F7D
I think the elites didn't like that so they used COVID as an excuse to make it so you literally have to have a phone to do anything such as timed tickets to MOST museums, phone pickup only. A few of our museums don't require timed tickets however........
Just experienced in Corvallis escaping the ice storm once where a pizza place would not let us order without an app so we went to another one and they had no issue and were shocked when we told them how snobby the restaurant was. This place however was happy to serve us unlike the other place and delivered directly to our hotel room at Best Western. The first pizza place should've done that we were even willing to pay an extra fee if necessary.
Ironically a few locally owned museums such as the Evergreen Air Museum up at Mcminnville DOES NOT require timed anything. They have a system in place before Covid happened but it's like a secondary feature and they DON'T have one way arrows anywhere. Never did. Forgot to mention it's two large buildings the older (2003) air museum and the 2009 space museum + water park in a separate building. From the entrance it looks like the big slide goes up to some kind of airplane and the you slide out of it. If I were a kid I'd have felt like I died and been in heaven!
Actually they do have a microprocessors a really bad one but a microprocessor none the less. However it's still not really a 'computer' like even the most basic Optiplex. In fact an 'app' is technically what you'd today call a widget. In the old days apps are what came with the OS like your calculator or that one Windows game you would click the wrong spot and a mine would explode. Minecraft I think:
Those took very little programming skills so it came along with Windows free. Anybody remember Mosaic where you put the puzzle together and if you got it wrong it would laugh?
What was the kind of phone used in Jungle 2 Jungle when he was tugging the little kid around NYC?
I'm not giving up my flip phone. They can't make me.
With a flip phone can you still do the time tickets and silly entry restrictions many museums make you do?
I have literally no idea what you're referring to.
Most museums make you have a timed ticket they send to your phone for entry and I'm not really sure how that works as I don't have a phone nor do timed ticket crap. The Newport Aquarium totally caved in on this as with all Portland based museums though I'm not sure if OMSI is included but the Zoo and Pittock Mansion requires timed entry between visits.
As I said before our air/space museum doesn't enforce it! Neither does any in Astoria Oregon!
Everything's going to fucking apps now, it's a PITA. Can't even roll up a rim any more, apparently, without needing a goddamn phone.
A what? A truck's tire?
A contest that generally involved simply buying a to-go cup of coffee, and then looking under the rolled-up bit of paper that makes up the rim the lid locks onto for to see if you've won some kind of prize. Simple. Now, apparently you see a code and then enter that into an app.
And I'm wondering "Why? Was counterfeit free coffees becoming a problem or something? Or did some jackass try to counterfeit the car?"
It will be all for the best. Honestly I have been in that group wanting to get away from smartphones. They are destructive in my opinion for so many reasons, but are sadly necessary for many things within a society.
I’m slowly working towards my long term bugout plan, which will include no phone or internet in or around my home.
Be open to motives, having everyone on a smart phone makes some people a lot of money and gives others a burst of power. It's not necessary for covid to be involved.
I've never gone to smart phone. I have noticed that covid got used as an excuse for some things (like making menus in restaurants be qr codes glued to the table), but I believe it's just an excuse and that those things were coming regardless.
It's no problem for me to eat somewhere else if a restaurant refuses to show me a physical menu. If they all do it, I can cook my own food.
