This is pretty much it.

It's weird, if you start to run across descriptions of the psychological patterns they use to generate their comments, what they're doing isn't very complicated.

A decade ago the us military publicly talked about a program to push american propaganda on enemy social media. Online forums are the ideal platform for bots. You can imagine how much progress they probably made in a decade.
