I don’t know how familiar you are with anime but there was a very poignant scene in code geass where the Chinese oligarchs sold out the empress of China to the Britainian Empire, they did so for positions of power in what would be the newly formed government. With the amount of Chinese money in our colleges and government it would be hard to see the scrambling they did to cover for China as anything other than treason, how much more of a stretch would it be for them to be funding a Chinese bioweapon in return for promises of continued patronage?
