Someone lamented the lack of gaming content in the sub-community, and I happened to be playing at the time, and it's something I've been thinking about as I played my longest game to date without restarting (Day 71 currently).
Well I've only put the hours in on one single player game, so haven't really optimised my choices. That first game I started with the lucky looter, lock picking and the crafting skill until I got the guaranteed workbench blueprint, then spears and agility for bows and stealth and back for rifles later.
In retrospect I would probably start with clubs, packmule and miner 69er on singleplayer now, just to farm up exp faster and cut down on the early grind. Would skip intellect skills until much later and get bows and stealth sooner for simpler animal hunting and POI clearing.
Spears get a bit more range and have slightly better knockback, although the stamina hit is pretty rough...
Iron gut helps out early on as well, makes food and water go down slower.
Sidenote, do you know if having multiple add-ons for crafting stations (beakers, grills, and cooking pots for campires; anvils, crucibles, and bellows for forges; etc.) makes any difference over only having one of each?

What skills to you like to focus on first? = )
