It's easy, free, and means people don't need to create an account just to post on your site, which would reduce comments.

At the same time, this is the very reason that the current tech monopolies/oligopolies rule. Just like people using googleapis, googletags, adsense, and other "free" google products to make things easier was important in making google as big as it is.
