Press coverage for a Doom wad is rare, but not unheard of. Usually, it's attention reserved for something that seriously overhauls the game, impresses people, and becomes wildly popular in the community. Even then, it's rarely reported on by more than one or two outlets.

Completely unknown to the Doom community. Not a peep on either of two largest Doom community forums. The only post about it on Doomworld is people reacting to the media blitz.
The popularity of this doom wad - which is a very standard wad that doesn't do anything radical or impressive, is completely and utterly manufactured. Its creator (who, unlike any other author of a doom wad, bizarrely calls himself the 'director') has very obviously been in contact with journalists who have clearly lapped this up and eagerly promoted it for political reasons.
Agenda driven bollocks.
