Every Pole hates Sapkowski, despite loving the books. He's looked at as a miserly useless bastard.
I don't think you guys understand the pursuit of great art. The pursuit of great art makes you fucking miserable. Creating a masterpiece is far more difficult than you think. It will change you. Imagine, sitting alone, behind a computer or typewriter, for the whole day, working into the night, working for breadcrumbs as people ridicule, and devalue you. Fuck. It's not easy to do what he did. You don't know anything about it as much as the rest of society. People are fucking idiots. They don't understand what it takes to create greatness, whether in art, or science. You think you can create something truly great, and be all chipper, and happy? That's not real life. Greatness requires sacrifice. You're gonna lose something trying to change the world.
Sapkowski sold the rights to make the game to CDPR for a single flat sum because he didn't believe that they could make any money. When the games got huge, he sued for a greater share of the pie--despite having signed for a single lump sum payment. Being a great artist doesn't excuse his behavior: other great artists managed to not being complete shitheads.
