It's funny, but I ended up in this conversation with someone trying to explain how important it was for some reluctant girl to get jabbed, and how she should "weigh her options".
Instead of trying to argue the science (because I've found you can't get anywhere with some people like that), I simply said "If some random guy in a trenchcoat came up to you out of a dark alley and offered you some experimental drugs you've never heard of, and that have never been tested for long term effects, but he told you that they were safe and effective, would you take them?"
Her entire tone changed, because it clicked. She said it was good people were looking out for others, but still important to weigh the options as a personal choice.
I would also like to figure out how to overcome the media fear porn. I can convince some women I know how dangerous the jab might be, but they are still more scared of the virus. The fear with the TV showing people who died of COVID and repeating the CDC lie that ALL hospitalizations are unvaxxed is stronger than me showing the statistical data on the other side.
Yeah, I haven't quite figured out how to get around that hurdle either.
The trench coat example works sort of decently (more-so with women than men) maybe because guys in trench coats in dark alleys are oftentimes associated with rape, and so if you attach that imagery to an experimental drug, it's an instant "No!' from women due to the emotional response of the image rather than the facts (which is why they care less about the statistics and more about the social stigma).
But like you said, I've still encountered people who defer back to the media fear-mongering, such as "hospitals are over-crowded and the delta will kill everyone!", and they just won't listen to reason so... I'm a bit at a loss for solutions there.
