I know that this forum isn't intended for this type of thing, but nonetheless...
There are relatively few places where I can ask this sort of thing without being laughed off, or having to pay, or being placed on some sort of watchlist as an "antivaxxer", especially now NNN is gone, so here we are...
Saying "private entity" felt wrong, in this case, because here I am referring to my University, which uhh, isn't private...
So then, here's the rub: my University wants to mandate that we, as students, need to be vaccinated. That's scary enough, but they specifically want to force us to take the AstraZeneca jab, because that is the only one currently available to people of our age group (i.e. students) across much of Australia. AZ is the one with most of the problems. That is what I really want to avoid, never mind the precedent of being forced to get a jab, overall, even just to complete my classes...
So... What do you think I should do? I'm serious, here. I'm not joking. I need this degree. I know education is overvalued. I know that. But I really do need this stupid piece of paper. So I wondered... What recourse do you think I have, to at least make them wait out a few months until Pfizer is available, if this goes ahead? Aside from "lawyering up", and becoming a "legal test case", that is..?
I should add that two companies in Aus, leaving aside the entire aged-care sector, already have vaxx mandates (fruit production, and an airline, FYI), so... The precedent has already been set.
But yeah, I'm worried about what this means, and I would genuinely appreciate your advice on this. Cheers in advance, and thanks for (hopefully) taking this somewhat seriously...
Religious/medical exemption is your only hope, unless some kind of deal that you never enter campus and study solely online could be made.
:-(
Funnily enough, someone did ask about "purely online study" for my faculty, when the Vice Chancellor (you know, head honcho) held an online "Virtual Town Hall" last week...
She outright refused to even accept that as a possibility for Science/Engineering... In fact, she went so far as to contend that TOO MUCH of it is online, currently, and it should all be "brought back into the fold", and held in person, once lockdowns ended...
We're fucked, then, aren't we? We are absolutely, irretrievably fucked. :-/
Damn.
That doesn't surprise me in the slightest. It's like some weird switch went on in everyone. I could speculate why, but if you've seen my posts here, you know what I'd say. (It's the fact that most vaccine deaths are male.)
Are you male or female? I haven't heard that many reports of female deaths from AZ. Most victims were male.
Although my advice in your case, regardless of gender, is to quote the health advice of the United Kingdom, who blocked AstraZeneca for younger people. Some EU countries did as well, but I think they backed down.
Nah, male, dude. Thanks for not pre-judging, ahaha.
Yeah, I nearly said something about the fact of the VC being a woman, and that playing a part, but left it out, ha... To say I "dislike her" is an understatement and a half, and I have personally had to deal with the cow, so that's... Fun.
But yeah, re AstraZeneca, oh boy, do I have some "fun" to show you re that: https://health-desk.org/articles/two-more-deaths-linked-to-the-astrazeneca-vaccine-in-australia
Australia has a health advice committee which decides if vaccines are "safe", right..? They came out and said the same as the UK committee you mention. But Australia blundered, and had a fuck-tonne of excess AZ doses, so guess what our almighty Prime Minister went ahead and did?
He overruled the health committee (ATAGI). He literally told them to "change their advice", and then when they refused to, he just went around them, to make it so under-40s could get AstraZeneca, but in so-doing, any doctor administering it would be "indemnified" against any side effects...
That's where we're at now. And apparently it "precipitated a rush" of willing millennial guinea pigs, who were more than happy to indemnify their doctor, and take something that they KNOW could have health consequences, but damn it, who cares, right?
That's why the university is pushing it, and that is why they feel they can force me to take it, if I want to go back to doing my fucking courses...
Scary, right?
I know it seems like the UK is mad, sometimes, but I promise you, Australia will always, always find a way to outdo them, lol...
We're a weird bunch, down here, and yes, I completely agree with you that feminism plays a big part in that. God knows why, but we're literally the most feminist Anglo nation, aside from NZ (Canada is more "leftist", but less feminist and slightly less authoritarian, oddly)... How on earth that happened - you tell me. :-/
Broken clocks can be right twice a day.
I'm honestly surprised the UK was on the right side of anything.
How is this even legal? I thought trusting the experts was gospel at this point, even to the leftist trash.
I know a lot of suckers who did. Smart people, not stupid at all, but when they got their "chance" to be vaccinated, they took it.
I don't know...I just think that some people are just so scared of Covid because of the media -I made a thread explaining it a little if you're interested that they will pretty much do anything to remove that fear. Hypochondria is a known mental condition and the media is deliberately causing it, to push these vaccines on people.
I don't think you should do it just because they make you. Just stall for time somehow. I wish I could be more help but I just think you shouldn't risk your life for a degree.
NZ is in a class of their own, remember when Ardern suspended elections? Nobody said a word in any of the world media.
