100 years ago someone like chrischan would have a farm labor job moving hay bales and shoveling shit all day. Maybe at the start he would catch a beating here or there for laziness or fucking up but eventually he would catch on. And he would be perfectly happy in that situation because he had a purpose and could see amd feel the results of his efforts every day.
He might have even been paired up with another dim bulb because her father couldnt find a better option in the community. She might even be grateful for the opportunity.
Now all the chrischans of the world live this permanet limbo of adolescence because there is no longer a connection between survival and productivity or competence.
Also, without vaccines to cause autism, the chances of encountering a Chris Chan 100 years ago would have been slim to none. Also, his parents would have given birth much younger, so there is even less chance of autism there.
100 years ago, there just wasn't the same level of commericalized hedonistic indulgence that there is today. Today, it just seems that that is all there is for many people. Most today workplaces are toxic - at least where I live, and - unless you have connections, or a good home life - the work environment is very hard on young people.
If you are a politicial dissident, then you also run the risk of being "red flagged" by corporations and government, for having opposing political views, or being outspoken. I shit you not, they have vast armies of informants and their spook handlers, who will run viscious smear and mobbing campaigns and destroy your ability to find gainful employment. If you move, these groups can network all over the world, and destroy your life there too.
So many young people simply conclude that it's not worth it to work. Youth are robbed of the sense of community, pride, and growth that only healthy and hard work can provide.

Uncle Ted was absolutely right.
