Inherent in the communist ideology is the requirement to smash everything down to bedrock and build it up again. This is partly why there has been No True Communism - there has yet to be the global revolution that would smash everything.

Such an ideology will naturally attract people enamoured of the visceral joy of destruction; because of communism's many failings it's less likely to attract others because beyond the license it grants adherents to tear down, smash and destroy there's not actually much substance there - every implementation so far simply turns into a drab form of feudalism.
